Separating and Compacting Tetra-Pak

Breweries and other manufacturers of beverages in Tetra-pak like juice, soft drinks, smoothies and other products, often have a need for destroying returned goods with expired date and/or faulty manufacture to avoid the products being resold by mistake.

RUNI screw compactor for dewatering Tetra-pak, handles both destruction, separation and compacting in one process, that saves storage and handling at the manufacturer. Installation of the compactor close to the production helps increase the certainty of destruction and saves a lot of transport costs.

How Does the Screw Compactor Dewater and Compact Tetra-Pak?

When separating, the liquid the waste stream is split in two. The separated liquid can be discarded as waste water or, in some of the cases, it can be collected and sold for other purposes: this could be used for energy production or even in production of animal feed. After compacting the solid is so dry, that it can be sent to incineration at a lower cost or it could be sold for recycling.

The full Tetra-paks can be fed to the screw compactor manually or with a conveyor belt. The liquid is squeezed through a perforated matrix and the compacted packaging material is then slowly pushed out of the departure tray, and can be collected in containers.

RUNI Solution for Tetra-Paks

For dewatering and compacting Tetra-pak, we offer two sizes of screw compactors:

The SK240 Screw compactor. With a capacity of approx. 5.000 liters per hour.
&
The SK370 screw compactor. With a capacity of approx. 15.000 liters per hour.

The perforated matrix is always made of stainless steel to withstand liquids with low pH.

Note: In the food industry the screw compactor needs to be placed away from the main production - RUNI has several solutions for this. Sometimes cleaning of the screw compactor is essential - also here RUNI has several solutions.
