EPE Compactor – EPE Recycling
EPE (expanded polyethylene) is a lightweight and bulky material that mainly consists of air. This contributes to the material’s good properties – but at the same time makes it difficult and costly to handle, both in terms of storage, transport, and disposal.
With a screw compactor from RUNI, the foam is compressed into heavy, stable blocks that can be sold for recycling.

EPE Waste - Expanded Polyethylene
EPE (expanded polyethylene) is used for packaging sensitive products such as glass and electronics. It is made of cells filled with air, and therefore, it has a large volume. The volume is a huge problem when it comes to storage, transport, and disposal. However, with the RUNI EPE foam machine, you can compact the EPE into blocks, which can be sold for recycling. This means that you can generate an income from your EPE waste instead of it being linked to big costs.
Compact EPE with RUNI
With our EPE foam Compactor, the RUNI SK370 screw compactor, and a specially developed pre-cutter, the EPE can be compacted into a cohesive cylinder-formed block with a density of up to 600-750 kg/m3. If you only have small pieces, the pre-cutter might not be needed.
The EPE will be cut into small pieces in the pre-cutter. The screw and the automatic hydraulic jaws will compact the material into uniform blocks. The different incorporated sensors ensure easy operation with automatic start and stop functions. We usually recommend getting a machine with a melting unit because some types of EPE, typically with a small cell structure, tend to re-expand when they leave the machine. The melting unit only melts the outer layer to make a smooth surface that will keep the material compacted. The alternative to the melting unit is to compact directly into endless bags. But the melting unit is the best and easiest option.
EPE foam recycling means that the material can be turned into small pellets again and used for the production of new plastic products. Recycling the EPE, it will stay in a closed loop and minimize the need to use new raw material to produce entirely new EPE.

Case Studies
Selit uses 2 SK370s to compact their XPS and EPE cut-offs in order to optimize the recycling of the materials.
