Mineral Wool Compactor
Mineral wool is a lightweight and bulky material that takes up considerable space in production facilities and waste handling areas. With a RUNI SK370, insulation waste such as stone wool and glass wool can be shredded and compacted directly into big bags. The compacted material can reach a density of 600–700 kg/m³, reducing the volume by up to 8:1.
When clean and properly sorted, the compacted mineral wool can be recycled and reused in the production of new mineral wool. This reduces storage and transport requirements and can help avoid costly landfill disposal.

Efficient Handling of Mineral Wool Waste
Mineral wool waste comes in many forms, from small production off-cuts to larger pieces of insulation material. Due to its low density, uncompacted mineral wool takes up a lot of space and can be costly to store and transport.
Larger pieces are first shredded in the integrated pre-crusher before the material enters the screw compactor. Smaller off-cuts or pre-shredded material can be fed directly into the compactor without a pre-crusher.
The compacted mineral wool is discharged directly into big bags, ready for storage, transport, recycling or disposal.
Handling Mineral Wool for Recycling
When mineral wool is clean and properly sorted, the compacted material can be reused in the production of new mineral wool.
With the RUNI SK370 you can:
- Reduce mineral wool waste volume by up to 8:1
- Achieve a density of 600–700 kg/m³
- Reduce storage and transport requirements
- Minimize manual handling
- Collect the compacted material directly in big bags
- Prepare clean and sorted mineral wool for recycling
A Flexible Solution for Mineral Wool Waste
The SK370 can be configured for different types of mineral wool waste and different ways of handling the material.
For larger pieces
An integrated pre-crusher reduces the mineral wool before it enters the compactor.
For small off-cuts or pre-shredded material
The solution can be supplied without a pre-crusher.
For continuous production
For higher material flows, the system can be supplied with conveyor feeding and multiple outlets. With two outlets, the operator can change a full big bag at one outlet while the compacted material is directed to the other, reducing interruptions in production.
For a flexible or mobile setup
The complete mineral wool compaction system can be integrated into a container or trailer.
Automatic Operation with Minimal Handling
Built-in sensors automatically start and stop the machine when material is detected in the hopper, reducing the need for operator involvement.
Mineral wool is abrasive and causes wear on equipment. Hardox wear parts are therefore used in exposed areas to improve wear resistance and extend the service life of the machine. Remote access can also be included for troubleshooting and support.
Benefits of the SK370:
Reduce the cost of warehouse, transport, and disposal
Reduce manual labor
Safe and easy operation with automatic start and stop
Compacting and Dewatering Wet Mineral Wool
The RUNI SK370 can also be configured for compacting and dewatering wet mineral wool. Wet material can occur in internal processes at mineral wool production facilities, but also in other applications where mineral wool absorbs or contains water, like grow bags from nurseries and mineral wool used as filter material in industrial processes.
Dewatering reduces the water content and weight of the material while compacting it, making subsequent handling, transport or disposal easier.
FAQ
Can mineral wool be compacted?
Yes. The RUNI SK370 is designed for compacting mineral wool waste, including stone wool and glass wool. Larger pieces can be shredded in an integrated pre-crusher before compaction, while smaller off-cuts or pre-shredded material can be fed directly into the compactor.
How much can mineral wool be compacted?
The RUNI SK370 can reduce the volume of mineral wool waste by up to 8:1. The compacted material can reach a density of 600–700 kg/m³, reducing the space needed for storage and transportation.
Can compacted mineral wool be recycled?
Yes. When the mineral wool is clean and properly sorted, the compacted material can be reused in the production of new mineral wool. Compaction makes the material easier and more cost-efficient to store and transport for recycling.
Can both stone wool and glass wool be compacted?
Yes. The RUNI SK370 can compact both stone wool and glass wool. The configuration depends on factors such as the size, flow and condition of the waste material.
Does mineral wool need to be shredded before compaction?
It depends on the size of the material. Larger pieces can be processed with an integrated pre-crusher before entering the screw compactor. Small off-cuts and pre-shredded mineral wool can be handled with a solution without the pre-crusher.
Can wet mineral wool be compacted and dewatered?
Yes. The RUNI SK370 can also be configured for compacting and dewatering wet mineral wool. Examples include used grow bags from nurseries and mineral wool used as filter material in industrial processes.
